Myosotis - Casa Vacanze Lerici

The Gulf of Poets, a land of poetry!

The Gulf of Poets, a source of inspiration for artists.

Myosotis is located in the Municipality of Lerici which, with that of La Spezia and Portovenere, is part of the wonderful Gulf of Poets. Gulf which has seen the frequentation of many intellectuals who over time have been inspired by the beauty of these places and described the beauty of the landscape in novels and poems.

The beauty of villages such as Lerici, San Terenzo, Tellaro, Montemarcello, Portovenere have fascinated great names of Italian and foreign literature: Dante, Petrarca, George Sand, Lord Byron, Percy Bysshe Shelley and his wife Mary Shelley and Charles Dickens, Henry James, Virginia Woolf and David Herbert Lawrence.

The Gulf of Poets has also been a source of inspiration for many painters who have immortalized the beauty of this corner of Liguria, its bays, sunsets over the sea, seaside villages, including William Turner, Arnold Bocklin, Carl Blechen and Sandro Botticelli, who lived in Fezzano.

The Gulf, a romantic cove which conquered great intellectuals and which still today enchants the many tourists with its seaside villages, its unique landscapes.

The poet Filippo Tommaso Marinetti in fact defined it as the Gulf of wonders.

Villa Magni, in the Gulf of Poets a simple home for extraordinary artists.

As evidence of the literary frequentations that have always animated the Gulf, on the seafront of Lerici it’s possible to admire Villa Magni, the villa located between Lerici and San Terenzo, on the promontory of Marigola, was built at the end of the 18th century by the Ollandini, a noble familyfrom Sarzana, during this ownership it became the residence from April to September 1822 of Percy Bysshe Shelley and his wife Mary, who attracted numerous friends dedicated to literature. The most famous visit was that of Lord George Byron who, during his stay, as a great swimmer, swam from Portovenere to San Terenzo.

Among the artists and writers attracted by the myth of Shelley and Byron, D.H. Lawrence, in May 1933 Virginia Woolf, Gabriele D’Annunzio a guest of Villa Marigola, like Sem Benelli who composed here “La cena delle beffe” and to whom we owe the nickname “Gulf of Poets“.

Visiting these places you’ll have the sensation of immersing yourself in a painting or of “walking” between the pages of a book, a true poem” en plein air”.
